Merge multi-row headers into one row

Grouped headers look tidy in a report — “Q1 2026” spanning Units and Revenue — but any tool that expects one header row sees blank names and duplicates: Units, Revenue, Units, Revenue.

All header levels are combined into one name per column, so every column says what it is: “Q1 2026 / Units”, “Q2 2026 / Revenue”. Merged cells, labels typed only above the first column of a group, and a year above month names are all handled.

Questions

How many header rows can be combined?
Up to seven, including merged cells across columns and rows, unit rows such as “(USD)” and rows of column numbers, which are dropped.
Why “Q1 2026 / Units” and not just “Units”?
Because otherwise the table has duplicate column names. You can rename any column, and saved layouts remember your names for the next file.
Does it work with PDF tables too?
Yes. Header lines above the columns of a PDF table are combined the same way, including years written above month names.
